HISTORICAL BALL GOWN FOR CURVY BARBIE - Marie Antoinette inspired gowns for Barbie

Have you ever dreamed of wearing a beautiful ball gown, long flowing skirt, lace, beads, and lots of flounce? Imagine all the work and fabric to create such a masterpiece back in the day.... Way before mass production, factories and personal sewing machines.

Dolls are such a great way to showcase the fashions from years gone by. Growing up reading historical gothic novels, I'd dream of wearing flowing gowns. Today, I envision ways to incorporate those designs for myself and my dolls. With the new Curvy doll on the market, she is limited on choices, so it is time to catch her up in fashion!

This is a basic Marie Antoinette inspired design with double skirt trimmed in lace. A matching hair scrunchie enables Curvy to wear her hair in a fashionable up-do.

This gown is a Royal Purple Ball gown, with a little secret....

Remember back when our grandma's (or great Aunts) had that dollie in the bathroom with the full sized crocheted gown?? You know, the one on the back of the toilet?  Imagine how convenient to use a toilet paper roll as a doll stand (and for storage!)  Well, I may not put my Curvy in the ladies room, but I think these paper rolls make FABULOUS holders for modeling my dolls and those luscious long skirts!! With heels on the line, each square is 1" inch in width and height for the doll. Counting each square upwards, you can measure doll's height, and across for width.

PINK FLAMINGO FOR KEN AND BARBIE - Curvy Barbie and Ken dolls are tourists

Pink Flamingo tourist outfits for Ken and Barbie. How could they resist visiting the Florida Keys without matching outfits? Is it corny to wear matching outfits as adults, or is this a reflection of getting older ---  After all, I've read that the older one gets, they either start looking like their pets, or their significant other! :)

 But cheesy or not, Ken and Barbie do look cute in their matching outfits!

KEN DOLL CLOTHES - Matching outfits for Curvy Barbie and Ken Doll

Every year during the holidays, I gift my granddaughters Barbie dolls with homemade clothes. This past Christmas, they knew what to expect and they begged, "boy clothes! We need boy dolls!"   Sure enough, as I looked at their three story Barbie house, they had everything you could imagine for Barbie...  except Ken dolls.

So, they got boy dolls this year for Christmas, and a baby brother to boot.

Over the years as I've designed for Barbie, I must confess, I've been skipping Ken over. Other than a few outfits here and there (Pioneer Ken in coveralls) I have not sewn for boy dolls. I was just having too much fun designing gowns and flashy outfits for Barbie.  I think the reason is that I had the mistaken idea that Ken didn't like fashion. I pictured him in drab colors and nothing really tasteful, as after all, he was a boy and was prone to practical clothes. Barbie was the one who cared about having shoes in every color and enjoyed wearing the latest designs.

But this time, I'm going to revive Ken. He is deserving of attention and fashion! He'll be sporting some really funky cool stuff in the near future.

Right now, I've discovered that Ken and Barbie can share fashions.

Today, they are sporting a colorful marble print. So no more will I be skimping on Ken!

An interesting fact about the word, limelight. Years ago before electrical lighting was used, calcium light was used in theatres and music halls --- An intense illumination is created when a flame is directed at a cylinder of quicklime. This type of stage lighting was called, limes.

This is a one-of-a-kind outfit for the Fashionista Curvy - with beadwork and ruffled pants. Although this ensemble was designed for the full sized Curvy Barbie in mind, it also fit similar sized BJD dolls. I love how the pants flare, and plan to introduce more of these fashions.

Curvy Barbie is ushering in the New Year's with a bang! This year promises a life full of adventure and color!  Her goal is to enjoy life to the fullest and to surround herself with the things she loves most - family, friends, and beautiful clothes.
